Our trip to the Bruce Peninsula

On August 15th the Wolfberger Clan began their trip up through Bruce County to stay at a beautiful log cottage called Tequila Sunrise. The cottage was right on the waters of Georgian Bay, Cape Chin South in the Northern Bruce Peninsula. The views were amazing, quiet and unspoiled. The log cabin was large, clean and comfortable with a full kitchen, three bedrooms, 2 washrooms but the views outside were the best! Janey-Mac and Uly were excited and kept looking out their windows to see where we were headed as we passed Wiarton and headed up Highway 6 and when we got to the corner of where we had to turn we were half way to the north pole according to the sign on the local corner/gas bar. We had really good weather although most of southern Ontario was hit with really bad storms and a tornado. We saw some of it up there but being on the peninsula the weather systems changed so fast that it never really rained in one spot for very long.

We arrive at the cottage around 3:00 p.m. and the dogs were really excited (they went nuts exploring lawns and the waterfront. A bit tricky learning to climb up and down those stone stairs but it didn't take them long to figure it out. This was Janey-Mac's first family vacation as Uly has already gone up to the Great White North with us in 2007 as a pup. Both dogs were so good and well behaved. We had no trouble with them inside the cottage or anywhere we went. They were the best example of a good ambassador to their breeds. I think many people were won over by their personalities and how friendly they were. We were stopped so many times everywhere we went that even the kids started answering all the questions and they met many dogs up there.

George, Sidney and Janey-Mac did see a coyote on the property walking across the first couple of days but I guess once the coyote saw Janey-Mac and Uly it never came back. I have some wild and the best spooky eye pictures of my crazy loup-garous (Janey-Mac cleaning off the table after dinner) in the shade of dusk wins hands down. I'm sure if that is what the coyote saw then I know for sure why it never came back. We made sure to keep collars on both dogs that jingled considering Uly from a distance looked like a bear and Janey looked like a wolf. We startled a few people on some of our forest hikes along the Bruce Trails who thought they saw a wolf?
First thing the kids did is explore the waters and put their goggles on while the dogs patrolled the beach. Janey blended in so well with the rocks and sand that it was hard to spot her from the distance.

The sunrises were just as promised (beautiful) facing east, it was easy to figure out why they called the place Tequila Sunrise. Special thanks to Joyce and Bruce for letting us stay at their cottage!!
